I love being given a blank slate to create, whether it be associated with baking or consulting projects, just tell me your goal, and I will be sure to achieve it. While I do have a menu, which gives customers an idea of what I make, I must admit that my favorite requests are those which give me a budget and a few key parameters…and the rest is up to my own creativity.
Recently, I received a request where someone needed a quick turnaround for an office birthday party. Not only was the birthday girl turning 30, but she and her colleagues were also training together for a half-marathon. The request was to make sweet treats for 20-25 people and “have something about the half-marathon and a ‘Happy 30th’.” I decided on a mix of cookies and cupcakes.
As for the cookies, I made my favorite Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches (click here to learn more), where half were filled with ganache and the other half with peanut butter. I also decided to make Salty Sweet Krisps (click here to learn more), a cookie one may not think to order, but once you take a bite, you are so glad to have had a taste. As for the cupcakes, I’m a fan of a light, fluffy cupcake, so I made a white cupcake topped with a Swiss meringue buttercream – half chocolate, half regular buttercream. My husband was working from home that day and was disappointed there weren’t extra cupcakes, but we both had a taste of the buttercream, which was both buttery and light. Yum!
For the birthday girl, I made two custom-decorated cookies. The first was a birthday cake-shaped cookie with “Happy 30th” written on it. The other cookie was square-shaped with a Finish Line and girl running through it.
